TNS-Movirtu study reveals the potential of Mobile Technology as a change – agent

The potential of rural India in terms of being a market for mobile technology and the benefits of the same to the rural poor has been highlighted earlier on this blog. Recently, one of the leading research firms in the world, TNS conducted a detailed study of ‘needs and attitudes’ of those staying in the rural areas of Tanzania, Senegal and India.

On first look it might seem a little weird that India has been placed alongside Tanzania and Senegal for this study. But the fact is that India and these two African nations have some of the highest concentrations of people living on less than $2 a day.

This study was commissioned by Movirtu, the creator of the award-winning Cloud Phone™ software. The main aim of the study was to identify the potential of mobile technology in these regions and to understand how it can be utilized to improve the quality of life and to empower the farmers, first-time entrepreneurs and the youth residing here. The TNS-Movirtu study tried to understand their aspirations and ascertain how mobile technology could address a number of them.
