Held annually, PopTech is one of the most renown gatherings of doers and thinkers in the world. Earlier this year, Mashable called it one of the best places to watch great minds in action. Past speakers and performers have included everyone from bestselling author Malcom Gladwell to public health critic Laurie Garrett to musician Imogen Heap.
But PopTech is not just about big ideas. It's about using a community of great thinkers to accelerate the work of social innovators. For the second year, a class of world changers will travel to Camden a few days in advance to go through a set of intensive sessions with world class teachers. These folks will help these social innovators learn more about how to leverage social media, how to think about brand and design, how to channel the power of marketing and more to accelerate their advances.
One of last year's Social Innovation fellows, Ushahidi's Erik Hersman, told me that the PopTech experience was one of his most treasured conference experiences of all time. The sixteen social innovators invited to this years fellowship class include some incredible folks, notably:
Josh Nesbit - FrontlineSMS:Medic - I'm convinced that FrontlineSMS:Medic is one of the most disruptive social projects out there.
- Emily Pilloton - Project H Design - Design thinking is one of the most important ways to approach social change, and I'm thrilled to see this growing network of designers for good has a place at the event.
- Nigel Waller - Movirtu - Movirtu is a system that allows even the poorest of the poor to receive personal messages via other people's phones, opening more private access to the most important communication infrastructure in the world.
Congrats to all the fellows, and see you at PopTech! Full Press Release after the jump.
